Open Science Community Nijmegen

A bottom-up network of researchers, students and professionals committed to making education and research more transparent, reproducible and collaborative. Guided by openness, fairness, diversity and inclusivity, we aim to foster a more open research culture by connecting people and sharing knowledge.

THE PEOPLE BEHIND OSCN

Behavioural Science Institute (BSI), Radboud University

I work as an associate professor of Communication Science – and Open Science Officer – within the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI). I joined the Radboud University and OSCN in 2021 after working at Utrecht University and founding the first Dutch Open Science Community there together with Loek Brinkman in 2018. I am a board member of the network of Open Science Communities the Netherlands (OSC-NL) and the International Network of Open Science and Scholarship Communities (INOSC) that I also chaired for two years. Loek and I developed the Open Science Community Incubator Program, a free 14-weeks online program to help people around the world to set up, run, and maintain their own local OSC. I love to share my experiences with Open Science and running a community to help and inspire others. I also have a podcast (in Dutch) on psychology (Drang naar Samenhang) together with Rolf Zwaan, and in my free time I like to cook, bake, hike, read, and solve puzzles (from old school jigsaws to escape rooms).

Tim Middeldorp

Tim Middeldorp

Radboud University

Hi, my name is Tim Middeldorp and I joined the OSCN organizing team in August 2025 as a communication advisor for the Open Science programme. Open Science appeals to me because I’m concerned about the growing distrust towards science. Openness and accountability can help address this challenge. Additionally, I work for the Faculty of Science as a content specialist. I have a background in Cultural Studies and Media Studies, and I worked as a teacher at a secondary school for several years. In my daily life, I enjoy meeting up with friends, going on city trips, and I’m on a mission with my daughter to visit all the playgrounds in Arnhem.

Hi, I’m Karin. I am the Head Librarian at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics, which is part of the German Max Planck Society. Supporting Open Access and Open Science is a key part of my work. I enjoy helping our researchers find ways to publish open access, and I’m also interested in new open access and open science formats. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, travelling, and watching crime drama series.
